Van Meter's Kardashian Biography Reveals Family Affairs, Ring Gift and Custody Strains

Jonathan Van Meter's authorized biography, "Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future," released on a Tuesday, makes a series of personal disclosures about Kim Kardashian, with its most pointed material focused on her marriage to Kanye West. The book draws on interviews with Kardashian and on accounts from people close to her production team, offering a more candid view of the drama her audience has followed for years.

Family history and a parent's affair

Van Meter writes that Kris Jenner had an affair with a younger soccer player in 1989, an episode that preceded the end of her marriage to Robert Kardashian Sr. Jenner had previously described the affair in her own memoir, and according to Van Meter, her daughters were aware of her relationships at the time. Van Meter reports that Jenner reacted angrily after learning the material would appear in the biography, a detail sourced to Kardashian's account of the conversation.

The ring, the robbery warning and the Malibu visit

The book describes a second engagement ring West gave Kardashian in 2016, with "Adidas" engraved inside the band, which Van Meter says was bought with his first paycheck from Yeezy sneaker sales. Van Meter also recounts that West warned Kardashian about flaunting jewelry months before she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. Separately, the author describes West staying for four days at a Malibu house designed by Tadao Ando, a property later bought by Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

Grief, custody and a difficult co-parenting arrangement

Kardashian tells Van Meter about her father's final words to her before his death from esophageal cancer in 2003, and about her emotional bond with him. She also describes co-parenting with West, with whom she shares four children, and says she worries about him constantly while trying to shield the children from conflict. These accounts come from Kardashian's own recollections and should be read as her perspective, not as independently verified events.
