Carroll improved to 6-2 overall and 5-0 in district play with a 38-10 victory over Trophy Club Byron Nelson, extending its winning streak to six games. A win next week against Keller Timber Creek would give the Dragons the District 4-6A championship outright rather than a share of it.
A Turnaround From a Rough Start
Carroll opened the season 0-2 against non-district opponents Allen and North Crowley. Since then, the Dragons have won every district game, beating Keller Central, Eaton, Northwest, Keller and Byron Nelson to remain undefeated in league play. The climb from those early losses to the top of the district standings has been steady rather than sudden.
Production Spread Across the Roster
Quarterback Hudson Tomcheck leads the team with 1,655 passing yards and 14 touchdown passes. Receiver Brody Knowles averages 106.6 receiving yards per game and leads Carroll with nine total touchdowns. Running back Dez Bryant Jr. averages 60.9 rushing yards per game and has scored five total touchdowns.
On defense, linebacker Landon Harris leads the team with 8.5 tackles per game, and defensive lineman Drew Oakley has recorded five sacks. That mix of offensive and defensive contributors has made Carroll difficult to game-plan against.
Special Teams Made the Difference Against Byron Nelson
Against Byron Nelson, the Dragons built their margin with more than their offense. Dez Bryant Jr. returned two punts for touchdowns and added a rushing score. Bennet Hunt and Cole Spaeth each returned fumbles for touchdowns, and Carroll also recorded a safety on the way to the 28-point win.
What Remains
With one district game left, Carroll controls its own path to the district title. A victory over Timber Creek would secure the championship outright and complete a season that has shifted from early setbacks to a serious playoff push.
