Sub-Tribe Build a New Chapter on the Mana EP With Loop Recordings

Sydney-based collective Sub-Tribe, whose members trace their roots to Aotearoa, have released the six-track Mana EP, their first full release in more than two years. The record marks the start of a new stage for the band alongside Loop Recordings Aot(ear)oa, arriving as their profile grows on both sides of the Tasman.

A Busy Run Before the Release

The EP lands after a sold-out seven-show Australian tour in September and a run of shows supporting SIX60 across Australia. The band have also been newly announced for the Electric Avenue 2027 and Homegrown 2027 lineups, a sign of a growing presence within the Australian bass and festival scene.

What the Mana EP Contains

The release gathers recent singles including "Te Waka" featuring Casual Healing, "For The Land," the title track "Mana," and the new single "Tū." "Te Waka" has held the top spot on the Te Reo Māori Radio Airplay Charts for more than 13 weeks, according to the band's announcement, which points to its reach among Aotearoa audiences.

Musically, the EP builds on roots reggae and dub while moving further into electronic production, Afro-futurist R&B, house and bass-driven sound system culture. Te reo Māori runs through the recordings, linking the group's heritage with its current sound.

Two Places, One Identity

Sub-Tribe formed in 2017 and now operates as a seven-piece from Gadigal Country in Sydney, carrying their whakapapa with them. The EP treats the connection between Aotearoa and Australia, tradition and contemporary life, and reggae and electronic music as parts of one evolving identity rather than separate influences.

The closing track, "Future," gives the clearest statement of that intent. Its spoken-word reflection describes the record as music for people balancing old ways with modern life and searching for their place between cultures.
