Ronald Plasterk - Mr. Tambourine Man

Yesterday the people of the Netherlands voted for a new parliament. We won’t see the return of the current Minister of Internal Affairs, Professor Ronald Plasterk. His party, the PvdA, has suffered the worst defeat in its history. Worse even than in his scariest nightmares. They have been beaten hard and lost 75% of their voters. Lucky for our minister he can opt for a 2nd career, as a busker (and we will see him back, here, on a saturday).

On October 30, 2005 Ronald Plasterk was scheduled to appear as a guest in a political TV talkshow. He surprised everybody when he entered with a hat on and a guitar in hand and started singing and playing Mr. Tambourine Man. He told that since his student days Dylan was (and still is) his hero and he used to play all of his songs. He went on to say that he attended the Bob Dylan concert in Rotterdam just two days earlier and that it was ‘splendid’! In another talkshow some 5 years later a small part of this was repeated. We were unable to find the original broadcast, but here’s the much too short repeat.
