Randy California - Like A Rolling Stone
January 2 2018. Happy new year to all of you and verry sorry for not being able to post for two days. Barely survived a terrible case of ManFlu!
Today we remember Randy California, who was 45 years old when he died on 2 January 1997, 21 years ago. Born February 20, 1951 as Randy Craig Wolfe in Los Angeles, California, was a lead guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is best known for being a founding member of the late 1960s rock band 'Spirit', together with his stepfather drummer Ed Cassidy. Over the years the band split up a couple of times and revived again in various line-ups. This came to an end on January 2, 1997, when California drowned off the coast of Hawaii. He had been surfing with his son, who got caught in a riptide. He managed to push his son to safety but ended up losing his own life. Here he is with ‘Like A Rolling Stone’ from German TV concert series Rockpalast in 1979.
