Houston we have a problem! Well… the problem we have with “Houston” is that you can’t turn on the radio or television or open a newspaper to be tsunamied by a flood of information about the floods in Texas due to hurricane Harvey.
At the same time, there is probably a far greater catastrophe going on at the other end of the world. Bangla Desh, India and Nepal also suffer from enormous water floods. In comparison with what is happening in Houston the problem in those countries is, well… absolutely incomparable. Thousands of people and hundreds of thousands of cattle have lost their lives. Millions of people have lost their homes and possessions and are on the run. If you turn your eyes to those parts of the world the situation in the south of Texas is not that bad, after all.
Our American readers may not accept this nuance, because for them it's an internal problem and that always feels worse. We understand that too, of course. It's the infamous far-from-my-bed show. But really: It's rough out there, high water everywhere; Charlie Patton or not.
